Reliable scope
What this converter supports
This version is specifically mapped and tested for FM Abhaya legacy-encoded text. A font name only controls how stored character codes look, so visually similar text from DL-Manel, Thibus, Kaputa or another encoding cannot safely be treated as FM Abhaya.
It converts plain text only. Font sizes, bold text, tables, page layout and scanned images are not transferred.
How to convert FM Abhaya text to Sinhala Unicode
- Open the original document with its legacy font and copy only the text you need.
- Paste the copied text into the FM Abhaya input box and review the Unicode result.
- Correct names, punctuation or mixed English text, then copy the clean Unicode output.
Sinhala Unicode converter questions
Why does legacy Sinhala text look correct only with one font?
Legacy font text stores ordinary character codes and relies on a particular font to draw Sinhala-looking glyphs. Unicode stores Sinhala characters consistently, so the text can be searched, copied and displayed with compatible modern fonts.
Can this convert a scanned Sinhala document?
No. A scan is an image and requires Sinhala OCR before text conversion. This tool accepts selectable legacy text copied from a document or application.
Is the pasted text uploaded to Peak Lanka?
No. Conversion happens locally in the browser. The pasted text is not sent to Peak Lanka by this converter.
Always proofread converted text
Legacy documents can contain damaged character codes, mixed fonts or custom glyphs. The mapping is deterministic, but it cannot recover information that is missing or identify a different font automatically. Compare important names, dates and legal text with the original.
