How the estimate works

Sri Lanka domestic electricity tariff blocks

Domestic block limits are published for a 30-day cycle. For a different billing period, each limit is multiplied by the number of billing days, divided by 30 and rounded down to a whole-unit boundary. This matches the method used by the current PUCSL calculator.

Up to the prorated 60-unit threshold, the low-user rates apply. A separate incremental structure applies from above 60 through 180 units. Once consumption exceeds the prorated 180-unit threshold, the approved tariff uses Rs. 32.50 for the first prorated 180 units and Rs. 100 for additional units.

What may differ on the issued bill

This is an educational estimate for a normal domestic block-tariff account. It excludes arrears, credits, adjustments, taxes or levies introduced outside the published table, solar settlement entries, Time of Use tariffs, prepaid tariffs and non-domestic accounts. Your CEB or LECO bill remains authoritative.

Common electricity-bill questions

Why can the cost change sharply after a block threshold?

Sri Lanka’s domestic tariff is not one continuous rate table. The complete low-user structure applies only up to the prorated 60-unit threshold, and the approved structure changes again above the prorated 180-unit threshold. The fixed charge also depends on the applicable range.

Why do the reading dates matter?

PUCSL publishes blocks for 30 days. A longer or shorter billing cycle changes the available units in each block, so entering only the number of units can produce an incorrect estimate.
